FIELDS OF RESEARCH

Research activity at FCCE is strongly correlated with educational efforts, both by integrating research findings into student training and through the direct involvement of students—particularly at the Master’s and Doctoral levels—as members of research teams within projects conducted in FCCE research centers and laboratories. Furthermore, utilizing research laboratories for the effective practical training of Master’s students in specialized disciplines not only optimizes the faculty’s existing resources but also ensures superior specialized training for young professionals.
FCCE embraces the mission and principles outlined in the “UBB Q-Optimum” strategic program, designed to stabilize and advance Babeș-Bolyai University within the “world-class” league as a prestigious European university. The research directions are diverse yet well-defined, following the research and development strategies implemented at both national and European levels. Each research unit engages in collaborations with numerous universities worldwide, ensuring that the research topics addressed by our faculty’s groups are integrated into global emerging trends.
A significant portion of the scientific results achieved by faculty members and students is published in internationally recognized, top-tier journals, while others are the subject of patents or patent applications, directly contributing to increased competitiveness at both national and international levels. FCCE continues to encourage and support research activities in partnership with teams and specialists from prestigious universities in Europe and across the globe. Notable examples of best practices include major projects currently or recently implemented, such as NRRP (PNRR) projects and participation in Horizon Europe and ERANET initiatives.

RESEARCH CENTERS

The faculty’s research activity is largely conducted within Research-Development-Innovation (RDI) units, which are institutionally accredited by the UBB Scientific Council and designated as being of strategic interest at the university level.

Computer Aided Process Engineering Research Centre – CCDIAC

Research Center of Advanced Chemical Analysis, Instrumentation And Chemometrics – ANALYTICA

Research Center for Electrochemistry and Non-Conventional Materials – CCEMN

Enzymology and Applied Biocatalysis research center

Research Center on Fundamental and Applied Heterochemistry – METALOMICA

Supramolecular Organic and Organometallic Chemistry Centre – CCSOOM

RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE

“The research infrastructure of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (INFRACHEM) is integrated into the RDI units that form part of UBB’s Strategic Research Infrastructure – the rUBB Platform – within the STAR-UBB Institute. It is featured on the common platform, INFRACHEM (https://eertis.eu/erso-2300-000w-1981) , and is accessible to all academic staff across the faculty’s research centers.
By consolidating existing research structures into an accessible, comprehensive, and integrated research platform, the true research and development potential of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is brought to the forefront. At the same time, collaborations with private companies are established to facilitate knowledge transfer and the practical application of research findings.
