Research objectives
The present project proposes a novel concept regarding the integration into a single technology of the two processes to exploit the synergy of simultaneous recovery of Cu from WPCBs and flexible power generation. The relevance of the proposed project is also sustained by the fact that it can help Romania to solve technical, environmental and socio-economic issues specific to the management of WPCBs and implementation of flexible operation in existing fossil fuel power plants, accomplishing its specific commitments regarding the WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU and CO2 emission targets for 2030.
Key objectives
- Exploit the synergy between copper recovery and energy production to deliver both valuable metal and dispatchable power.
- Provide a promising route for Romania to comply with the WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU and achieve the 2030 CO2 emissions targets.
- Demonstrate a scalable, environmentally sound solution for managing electronic waste.
