Welcome to the NMR Laboratory @FCIC.UBB

NMR Laboratory is located at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering within Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca

The NMR integrated spectroscopy system is composed by 2 state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers Bruker Avance III with Ascend 400 MHz ultrashielded magnet and Ascend 600 MHz ultrashielded magnet) purchased in 2013 within R.I.C.I. „Rețea Integrată de Cercetări Interdisciplinare” project. The NMR integrated spectroscopy system is unic in BBU and in Cluj.

Into the NMR laboratory there is an LNG production plant which is producing the liquid nitrogen needed to cool down the magnets.



Utility


The NMR infrastructure is absolutly necessary in order to validate the structure of the synthesised compounds or of the natural compounds, both for research activities and also for the teaching activities The NMR investigations are cricial in order to determine the structure of the synthesized compounds.

Application


The fields of applicability are not limited to the characterization of synthetic organic or organometallic compounds (new compounds in the case of research activities, or compounds obtained by repeating syntheses during teaching activities), the NMR infrastructure being decisive also in the case of the characterization of natural products and for structural confirmation of new products resulting from biochemical syntheses.

Versatility


The NMR spectrometry system also responds to requests from outside the academic community, respectively NMR measurements requested by private entities, based on a service contract.

Usability


The NMR infrastructure respond to the requests of the entire academic community from the BBU as well as of students at all academic levels (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) both in research activities and in teaching activities (trainings for determining the structures of synthetic and/or natural compounds). The NMR infrastructure is also used in the research projects implemented in the university and the faculty but also in partnership or contractual relations with other institutions or private entities.
