OBJECTIVES

• Development of a laboratory infrastructure for the synthesis, analysis and testing of nanostructures for nanomaterials with advanced properties.
• Synthesis of fullerenes (Synthesis of “bowl-shaped” precursors by wet chemistry methods; Syntesis of non-classical fullerenes by laser ablation of the precursors; Functionalized fullerenes and/or precursors, by wet chemistry methods).
• Syntesis of nanotubes and junctions (Syntheses of nanotubes by laser ablation; Synthesis of double walled nanotubes DWNT, by coalescence of fullerenes and “nano-peapods”; Nano-junctions, prin electron-beam irradiation of the single-walled nanotubes SWNT; Oriented nanotube networks; Nanocones).
• Synthesis of spongy-carbon.
• Synthesis of nano-diamond.
• Nano-composites with magnetic properties (Testing of electric and magnetic properties of nanostructures; Testing of biological properties of some nanostructures; Study of stability/reactivity/aromaticity of some nanostructures, and their functionalized derivatives).
• Development of a computing center, oriented on nanostructures (generation of coordinates, quantum calculaons, simulation of spectra, development of original software and standard structure sets for testing the software).
• Dissemination of the results, participation at national/international meetings.
• Subsequent patenting of the experimental results and the software programs.
• Publication of the results in journals and books.
