Research and professional activities

Past research interest

  • 2008-2010 My main focus was the development of analytical procedures for simultaneous analysis and characterization of complex mixtures using chromatographic and spectrometric techniques, assisted by chemometrics. This includes assays for the analysis of food dyes, pharmaceutical preparations, natural products and others.
  • 2010-2016 Within this period of time, I was interested in a new research trend that focused on the bioanalysis of different enzymes and proteins and their applications in bioanalytical chemistry as well as characterization of different protein-based products and plant-based extracts. This includes copper containing laccases with applications in polyphenols interactions, antioxidant activity, prooxidant reactivity determination, etc. I have proposed and successfully applied non-conventional analytical approaches for detection of highly reactive or short-living analytes such as superoxide radical, sulfanyl radical, metals in high oxidation states, S-nitrosothiols in plants and others.

Current research interest

Following 2016 year, my main research interests slowly started to point towards two directions that intertwin each other:

  • Applications of chemometric tools or multivariate data analysis in quantitative evaluation and profiling of diverse biological or forensic samples. More specific, it encompasses chemo-mapping, regression analysis and metabolomic profiling of plant-based samples that will help to understand and predict different kinds of rational design of crop-based food, abiotic stress in economically relevant plants and plant biofortification and their effect upon animal models.
  • Development of chromatographic and spectrometric bioanalytical methods for the analysis and characterization of natural products, biological fluids and forensic samples. Distinctly, it entails optimization of analytical methods for determination of unique phytochemical biomarkers, biological active compounds, plant pigments and mineral analysis of plant samples.
