·   Project objectives

Main objectives: ♦development and optimization of new dental biomaterials and endodontic cements with poly-functional properties, obtained by specific methods of molecular or colloidal self assembly ♦development and optimization of new fabrication methods for supramolecular polyfunctional systems in aqueous solutions and at the air/water interface, using protein films ♦achieving multifunctional biomaterials formed from nanoparticles of nanostructured phosphates and diverse polypeptides (e.g. bone growth factors) with applications in nanobiotechnology, nanodental and nanomedicine ♦enamel and dentin repair with INOVAMAT products ♦to examine the remineralizing potential of different INOVAMAT products, nanomaterials, modified hydroxyl phosphates and their various biocomposites ♦toothpaste formulations: toothpastes or prophylaxis pastes, containing modified nano hydroxyl phosphates; ♦products for demineralized enamel ♦endodontic cements ♦INOVAMAT nanomaterial is the ingredient to be used in a number of professional products and over-the-counter dental products designed to give immediate and long-lasting relief from tooth sensitivity ♦From the end products of INOVAMAT project, the prototypes for: dentin hypersensitivity; enamel protection (anti-cavity); hypersensitivity relief (in office use); prophylactic enamel protection are in progress to be finalized for the market.

Specific objectives: ♦Elaboration of new surgical methods applied to the teeth root canal ♦Study of the molecular and colloidal self association and self organization process in aqueous solutions ♦Preparation and characterization of inorganic powders by spectroscopic methods (e.g. FTIR, FT-Raman, NMR), calorimetry, X rays diffraction (XRD), specific surface area analysis BET, electron microscopy (EM, SEM, TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) ♦realization and characterization of mixed systems (e.g. thin films or dental cements) from nano hydroxyl phosphates in presence of polymers ♦Large scale dissemination: articles, communications, patent application; ♦finalization of PhD theses, graduation theses and master dissertations.
