Consortium
The More4LessCu consortium brings together 7 partners from 4 countries – Sweden, Spain, Romania and India – including 3 universities, 2 research institutes and 2 industrial partners and end users. Together they cover the full chain from laboratory proof-of-concept and process modelling to life cycle assessment, upscaling and business case development.
Project coordinator: Shareq Mohd Nazir
1. KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) – Sweden
KTH is Sweden’s largest technical university and the project coordinator.
The Department of Chemical Engineering contributes world-leading expertise in reaction
engineering, catalysis and process development, supported by extensive lab and pilot
infrastructure and advanced modelling tools.
WP role: Leads WP1, WP6 and WP7,
and contributes to WP3–WP5.
2. Swerim AB (SWERIM) – Sweden
SWERIM is a leading research institute in mining, process metallurgy and materials science,
with unique pilot and industrial-scale facilities. It performs environmental and upscaling
assessments using state-of-the-art LCA tools.
WP role: Leads WP5, contributes to LCA work in
WP4 and to WP6–WP7.
3. H2 Green Steel AB (H2GS) – Sweden
H2GS is an industrial partner developing large-scale green steel production based on
fossil-free electricity and green hydrogen. In More4LessCu, H2GS evaluates how green
hydrogen concepts can be extended to copper production and other heavy industries.
WP role: Contributes mainly to WP5 on upscaling
and business potential.
4. Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) – Spain
CSIC is Spain’s largest public research organisation. The Environmental Research Group
at Instituto de Carboquímica (ICB) provides long-standing expertise in Ca-looping,
thermochemical conversion and CO2 capture, supported by advanced lab rigs.
WP role: Leads WP2 and contributes to
WP3–WP7.
5. Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) – Romania
UBB, through the Chemical Engineering Department within the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, is internationally
recognised for process modelling, simulation, optimisation and integration of complex
energy and industrial systems.
WP role: Leads WP4 and contributes to
WP1 and WP5–WP7.
6. BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (BITSG) – India
BITSG is a research-led university campus with strong focus on process engineering and
intensification, including chemical looping technologies for hydrogen production and
CO2 capture. It operates a wide range of advanced characterisation and
analytical equipment.
WP role: Leads WP3 and contributes to
WP4–WP7.
7. Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company Ltd. (ABSTC) – India
ABSTC is the global R&D hub of the Aditya Birla Group, supporting multiple industrial
businesses in their decarbonisation and innovation strategies. In More4LessCu, ABSTC
provides copper concentrate samples and industrial data, and evaluates the upscaling and
business potential of the proposed concepts.
WP role: Contributes to WP1 and WP5–WP7.
